The tractor-trailer, which belongs to Ram Transport Inc. of Allston, rolled over on Wednesday, May 17 around 10:15 a.m. when its driver attempted to merge from Route 16 onto Know Marsh Road, according to New Hampshire State Police.

The driver, identified as Leandro Done Garcia, of Lynn, drove over granite curbing when trying to merge, made an overcorrection, and overturned the trailer, which was filled with 60,000 pounds of garbage.

The trailer's heavy load meant that the garbage had to be cleared off the road and loaded into separate containers before the tractor-trailer could be lifted back onto its wheels.

The extensive clean-up process kept the Exit 8W off-ramp closed for an extended time, leading to significant traffic backups on Knox Marsh Road, both eastbound and westbound.

Drivers were warned to avoid the area.

The case remains under investigation, but police say negligent driving appears to have been a factor in the incident.
